Since its inception in 2020, the co-founders and directors of Laps and Naps Home for Senior Cats have always held the vision of building a cage-free sanctuary for senior cats. While we have been able to save many senior cats as a foster-based organization, so many more seniors could be saved if there was a facility for intake, evaluation, medical care, and adoption.

We plan to build a sanctuary for senior cats that will serve as a model for the humane care of all cats in the final chapters of their lives. Every room will have at least one window and there will be plenty of sunlight, comfortable sleeping spots, towers, ramps, and hideaways. Because sunshine and fresh air are important for the health and wellbeing of all creatures, there will be an inner courtyard with cat fencing that will provide a pleasant environment for both the cats and human visitors to the sanctuary. Cats in rooms without direct access to the courtyard will have access to catios where they can enjoy a gentle breeze and safely watch the wildlife on our 5.5 acre property.

Having a physical sanctuary will not only increase our capacity to take in cats, but we will have more adoptions because people will have a place to spend time with the cats and “be chosen” by their special cat or pair of cats. Just as Hospice centers for humans strive to create a peaceful environment, the Laps and Naps sanctuary will provide a pleasant, peaceful environment for people who want to come out and spend time with senior cats.
