Welcome to our mindfully designed, efficient, and scalable senior cat community
In 2019, a few like-minded souls and I came together to create Laps and Naps Home for Senior Cats, with a shared vision of creating a cage-free haven for older cats.
The time has finally come! We have the land, we have the plans, but we need your help to open the doors.
Will you join us in building this peaceful sanctuary for senior cats, where they can heal, find a new family, or live out their lives with dignity, love, and respect?

SANCTUARY OVERVIEW
Explore the plans using the tabs below.
Nine living areas can comfortably accommodate our preferred 55-cat capacity, with rooms for singles and groups up to eight. Cubbies, ramps, and climbing trees (plus cat doors between rooms) allow each individual to claim private and social space. Everyone can enjoy the sights, sounds, and smells of nature via screened catios or an inner courtyard.

Cats like Missy, who had been kept in a filthy crate and needed emergency spay and dental surgery when she came to us (left photo below), will benefit from the dedicated care of our on-site veterinarian and technician. With our own staff providing both routine and overnight treatment, we can manage growth responsibly and enhance our catsʼ health and comfort at a fraction of the cost of outside sources. Missy is now healthy and thriving in a foster home (at right).

We anticipate a significant increase in adoptions when the sanctuary opens. Visitors will be able to spend time with each sanctuary cat and let their next feline companion choose them, rather than meeting them in individual foster homes.

Our 3,900-square-foot building includes areas for cats’ meal prep and laundry, plus a large multipurpose space which can be used for meetings, to host community groups (like 4-H, Scouts, and senior programs), educational workshops, and yoga… with cats of course!

The population will be a mix of permanent residents, new intakes, and cats receiving care. Those unlikely to be adopted due to age, medical needs, or guardian wishes will enjoy lifelong care and support: cats like Carson and Jimmy Jimmy, who came to us as 18-year-old brothers after their mom with dementia could no longer care for them. Their remaining time was spent with a volunteer who loved them like her own.

Celebrate your own love of cats, or honor someone special, through a lasting tribute.
Your legacy deserves a place here.

“A sanctuary provides a safe space for cats like Roo to experience comfort, and freedom to transform and thrive.”
“Senior cats are overlooked, with many dying because younger cats get more attention,” foster and adopter Erica says. Roo (below) was found emaciated and half blind, with fractures, FIV, dental disease, old scars, and parasitic anemia.
Initially, Roo would scratch and growl at people… until he saw Erica’s own cats coming to her for love. “It was like a light switch for Roo. Seeing the trust they had in us humans.”
Today, Roo is their affectionate, gentle giant for life. “A calm, quiet environment can mean the difference between life and death. It’s clear he is grateful for his second chance.”

Roo on arrival, and now healthy and loved in his forever home.
